Powerful Story & Alluring Gameplay
I have a 21.5-inch iMac, Late 2012, 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB, 1 TB Fusion Drive, Running 10.9
EYES
The game looks incredible with next-gen effects and a plethora of crisp in-game cutscenes. The lighting & colors paint the perfect, dark, post apocalyptic scenery. The atmosphere of the world is rich with detail. There is, strangely but purposefully, only one slider to adjust video settings. On my system, I lowered it slightly from the (rather high) default and the game became smooth and very enjoyable.
HANDS
The controls are simple and easy to learn. They’re great at their default positions but can be remapped/bound if desired. Metro: Last Light is an FPS and one of the challenges with first person shooters is the balance of shooting/reloading/switching. This game does it well giving you freedom to carry your choice of a few close/far guns to switch between. The ratio of gun size to screen size is right on as well.
EARS
Superb Voice Acting! The mix of varied Russian and German accents is quite pleasant. The soundtrack is fitting and adds to the immersion. The weapon discharges are satisfying and believable.
GAMEPLAY
You’ll spend most of the game running around with various NPCs. The missions are fun and help drive the storyline. Even the loading screens keep the story rolling. There’s a fair amount of loot collecting but nothing over burdensome. The difficulty settings allow you to challenge yourself by limiting ammo/resources. The overall experience is rewarding and moving.
WARNING TO PARENTS
This game is not for children. It’s grusomely violent, bloody, profane, scary, and very adult in every other way. If you’re worried about the level of exposure I suggest watching the trailer or reading the novel this game is inspired by, Metro 2033.
SUMMARY
If you love Survival Horror — this is your game. The gunplay is addicting. The story is masterfully delivered. The downloadable content (DLC) that can be purchased inside the game is epic. I highly recommend this to FPS fans & Cinematic lovers alike!
